Who We Are

Health for Friends is a 501(c)(3) non-profit health clinic dedicated to serving the low-income, uninsured residents of Norman. At Health for Friends patients receive the medical attention they need by staff and volunteer medical professionals of the community. In 2007 Health for Friends saved an estimated six million dollars in medical expenses that otherwise would have been absorbed by the Norman community and physicians. Health for Friends provides the following services:

• General Medical Clinic
• Well Women’s Clinic
• Prenatal Clinic
• Pharmacy
• Dental Clinic

Health for Friends not only serves the Norman community by providing a healthcare home to the underserved, but it is also a place that promotes volunteerism and service. Each year numerous students from the University of Oklahoma volunteer at Health for Friends to gain valuable experience as preparation for medical school and higher learning. Health for Friends has also recently secured agreements with the OU Dental School to have student dentists and dental hygienists practice at Health for Friends. It is a place of learning and community awareness, and Health for Friends is proud to be a part of Norman Oklahoma.     

Health for Friends History

Health for Friends was founded in 1985 by Kathy Heiple per a request from a local church. Mrs. Heiple began the part-time clinic in an old motorcycle repair shop. At that time the clinic was minimally staffed and functioned solely on the volunteer hours of local physicians. The struggling clinic eventually moved to occupy an old house on Himes, which was eventually torn down and replaced with the current brick building that is Health for Friends. What once was a part-time volunteer clinic has grown to be a full-time and fully staffed health clinic still functioning to serve the low-income, uninsured residents of Norman. Thanks Kathy.

Health for Friends is a proud partner with Norman Regional Hospital. Health for Friends has also received valuable funding from United Way of Norman, The Norman Community Foundation, State of Oklahoma, Delta Dental, the Kerr Foundation, and Sarkeys Foundation. We cannot forget the priceless support of individual contributions and local church support that helps us keep the doors open to the Norman community.
