About Us

Health for Friends (HFF) has been providing free health care to uninsured Norman residents since 1985. Over the last 20 years, HFF has expanded from a grassroots organization housed in a former motorcycle garage to a modern, comprehensive healthcare center providing nearly 26,000 appointments between its medical clinic, dental clinic, and pharmacy.

HFF's healthcare providers are licensed, credentialed medical doctors and physician assistants that are supported by a highly skilled staff of registered nurses, a licensed practical nurse and an onsite pharmacist and pharmacy techs.

Our mission is to provide a wide range of quality health services for the medically undeserved in Central Oklahoma.  This mission is both medical and moral as we seek to alleviate the medical issues afflicting our indigent neighbors that have no other place to go for health care. Our dedicated team of health professionals exhausts all resources to make our patients well. Whether it is our comprehensive medical care and social services, well-woman exams, or expanding our evening clinics, we are committed to serve those who need us most.

HFF’s staff has developed a culturally competent approach to the provision of healthcare. HHF staff practice a patient-centered modality that affects care given to individuals of any community and varied backgrounds.  We believe the core of both cultural competency and patient-centered care emphasizes unconditional respect for the patient as an individual, in which a rapport is developed through consideration of the patient's beliefs, values, and meaning of illness.  HFF demonstrates this approach everyday from providing a healthcare center that is convenient to the community, providing language assistance for patients with limited English proficiency, to placing the needs of the patient at the center of the healthcare interaction within the context of cultural differences.

In 2008, HFF saved the Norman medical community over $6.2 million in health services: a cost that would have otherwise been absorbed by our practitioners and hospital. In addition, our pharmacy filled over 17,000 prescriptions for our patients in need of medication for acute diseases and for chronic disease management.
